THIS IS STA
A place to belong. A place to grow.
A place to discover what you're capable of.
At Sunbury Stunt and Tumble Academy, we share a love of cheerleading and tumbling while helping athletes build confidence, connections, teamwork and skills that reach far beyond the competition floor.
MORE THAN
CHEERLEADING.
STA is a cheerleading and tumbling academy in Sunbury, Victoria, built from something simple — a love of the sport and a desire to share it with others.
We love the skills, the teamwork, the performances, the friendships and the excitement of competition. But some of the most important things athletes gain from cheerleading happen far beyond the competition floor.
Our goal isn't simply to develop better cheerleaders. We want athletes to enjoy their time at STA, achieve goals that matter to them, build friendships and connections, and take experiences and lessons with them long after their time in cheer is over.
DIFFERENT
STRENGTHS.
ONE TEAM.
Cheerleading isn't one skill — and an athlete's value to their team should never be determined by just one thing.
One athlete might be a confident tumbler. Another might be an incredible base, a strong flyer, a powerful dancer or a performer who brings the routine to life.
Every athlete has different strengths, and everyone has areas that challenge them. We want athletes to keep working, listening to their coaches and taking responsibility for their progress — without feeling like they have to be the best at everything before they belong.
Keep developing the things that challenge you. And recognise the value of what you already bring.
PROGRESS
WITHOUT PRESSURE.
We want athletes to be challenged, supported and proud of the progress they make — without feeling like they need to rush through the process.
Every athlete learns differently. Our job is to help them understand what they are working towards, give them the tools to improve and hold them accountable for the things they can control.
PROGRESSION
Skills take time. We want athletes to work through the progressions, build the right foundations and enjoy the process rather than feeling pressure to achieve a skill before they are ready.
TECHNIQUE
How a skill is performed matters. Good technique supports safer progression, stronger teamwork, cleaner routines and gives athletes better foundations for whatever comes next.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Athletes are expected to listen, apply corrections, put in effort and take responsibility for their progress. In a team sport, their choices and attitude also affect the people training beside them.
INDIVIDUAL COACHING
Not every athlete needs to be coached in exactly the same way. We get to know the athlete in front of us, adjust how we communicate and support them while still maintaining expectations and helping them build resilience.
CONDITIONING IS NEVER A PUNISHMENT.
We use conditioning as a tool for development — helping athletes build the strength, control, endurance and physical foundations they need to perform skills confidently and safely.
We want athletes to understand that looking after their bodies, becoming stronger and building resilience helps them do the things they love.
FIND YOUR
PATH AT STA.
There's more than one way to experience cheer at STA. Our pathways give athletes the opportunity to find the environment that suits where they are now — and room to explore what comes next.
From learning the foundations to stepping onto the competition floor, each pathway brings a different experience while staying connected to what matters most at STA.
DISCOVER.
LEARN.
BELONG.
A welcoming place to discover cheer, learn new skills and experience being part of a team.
Athletes are encouraged to have a go, explore what their bodies can do and become comfortable listening to coaches, taking corrections and trying something new.
Along the way, they make connections, celebrate each other's achievements and begin building their own relationship with the sport.
STEP UP.
PERFORM.
EXPERIENCE COMPETITION.
A chance to experience the energy of performing as part of a team and taking a routine to competition.
Training becomes more structured as athletes learn routines, develop their skills and begin to understand how their preparation contributes to the group.
CheerStars gives athletes room to become more independent, experience competition and decide where they would like cheer to take them next.
COMMIT.
CONTRIBUTE.
PERFORM AS ONE.
For athletes ready to take on greater expectations and contribute to a team working towards shared goals.
Competitive athletes are expected to prepare well, respond to coaching and understand that effort, attitude and decisions can affect everyone around them.
Success isn't about every athlete being great at the same things. It's about developing your own abilities and using your strengths to help the team perform at its best.
FOUR VALUES.
EVERY STAGE.
What these values look like evolves as athletes gain experience, independence and responsibility.
Trust yourself enough to have a go and recognise what you're capable of.
Build genuine relationships and know you're part of something.
Contribute, support others and understand the part you play.
Stay open to feedback, new experiences and the next opportunity to improve.
BE THE TEAMMATE
YOU'D WANT
BESIDE YOU.
Being a great teammate is about more than performing your own part. It's about the way you make the people around you feel.
We want athletes to put in effort, listen to feedback and apply corrections — but also to notice the people beside them.
Celebrate their wins. Encourage them when something is hard. Help them reset after a mistake. Make sure they know they matter.
Bring energy that helps the people around you believe in themselves.
Be there for teammates through both the great moments and the difficult ones.
When something goes wrong, reset together, learn from it and move forward.
SOME OF THE MOMENTS WE'RE MOST PROUD OF HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH A SCORECARD.
They're the moments when we see athletes celebrating each other, picking a teammate up after a difficult moment, making friendships and creating memories together.
We've seen that same connection grow between our families — parents cheering for children who aren't their own, supporting one another, laughing together and sharing the experience alongside their kids.
STA began with a love of cheerleading and a dream of sharing that sport with others. The trust our families place in us allows us to keep building that dream.
THE WORK HAPPENS
BEFORE YOU HIT THE FLOOR.
We love competition. We love seeing athletes perform at their best, and we love celebrating a great result.
But success at STA isn't measured by a placing alone.
Sometimes success is a result. Sometimes it's performing with confidence, overcoming something that was difficult, being there for your teammates or walking off the floor knowing you gave everything you had.
The result matters. So does everything it took to get there.
PREPARE.
Training is where we ask for effort. Listen to feedback, apply corrections, support your teammates and do what you can to be ready when it matters.
PERFORM.
When it's time to compete, trust the work you've done. Perform together, enjoy the experience and be proud of having the opportunity to represent your team.
GROW.
Whatever the result, there is always something to take forward. Celebrate what worked, learn from what didn't and bring that experience back into the gym.
NO BLAME.
RESET. LEARN. TRY AGAIN.
Mistakes happen in sport. A stunt can fall. A tumble pass can go wrong. A routine might not look the way it did in training.
Our response isn't to look for someone to blame. We support each other, recognise the things that went well and then go back to the gym to work out what we can improve next time.
Winning and placing are exciting. But they're not the only evidence of success.
Confidence gained. Skills developed. Challenges overcome. Teammates supported. Memories made. Those things matter too.
THERE'S A PLACE
FOR THEM AT STA.
Whether they're trying cheer for the first time, looking for a new challenge or ready to take the next step, we'll help you find the right place to start.
